1937:
An healthy obsession with light
Born in 1909 in Connecticut, USA, the founder of the Polaroid Corporation,
Dr. Edwin Land, became captivated by light at an early age.
A fascination with kaleidoscopes and a desire to play with and
control light led him to invent the world's first polarizing material
for commercial use in 1929 at the age of 20.
Edwin established Polaroid Corporation in 1937, and the first pair
of sunglasses went over the counter towards the end of that decade.
Polaroid sunglasses became the biggest-selling sunglasses in history.
2008: The spirit of invention lives on
We use a unique press-polishing system for the manufacture of our
lenses. It's called PTX4000 technology. Catchy isn't it? Today we
are the only company with the required level of optical engineering
expertise to use lens press-polishing technology in the manufacture
of sunglasses.
Imitation
is the sincerest form of flattery
Where Polaroid innovated, others copied and now not all polarized
sunglasses are Polaroid. Only genuine Polaroids carry the quality
seal.
Polaroid are the originals - the inventors - and the best. |
