Alex wearing his Polaroid Venture P7000C sunglasses in the red frame colour way.
In 2008 Alex Flynn was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease at the age of 36. So he decided to do something positive and inspirational with the hope of finding a cure for Parkinson’s Disease. Alex has a goal to race 10 Million Metres before December 2014 wearing Polaroid’s excellent sports sunglasses, aiming to raise over £1m for Cure Parkinson’s Trust.
Polaroid Eyewear is supporting Alex’s 10 Million Metre challenge, by providing him with sports sunglasses to protect his eyes as he takes on his exceptional challenge. Alex was recently featured in Running Fitness magazine which featured his epic journey running from London to Rome in his Flynn’s TransEurope challenge.
Alex dropped us a note: “Just a quick email to say how spectacularly the sunglasses you supplied were. Thank you and the rest of the Polaroid team for the support this year.” There’s only one reply to this. “We’re glad to help. And Alex, you are a true inspiration.”

2012 is a landmark year for Polaroid Eyewear as we celebrate our 75th Anniversary. Dr Edwin Land invented the first synthetic polarizer back in 1937 and went on to establish the well known fashion and quality polarized sunglass brand that we are today.
This year will see a host of celebrations all over the world to mark our amazing milestone in polarization expertise and stunning design.
To coincide with our anniversary and the upcoming launch of our new 2012 Best under the sun collection, we’ve announced a worldwide collaboration with the UK based charity Sightsavers. We’ll help to fund their work to restore sight and prevent blindness in children and adults living in some of the world’s poorest countries. We’ll do this by donating £1 per pair, from every single pair of sunglasses in the Best under the sun collection sold during 2012.
£1 can make a big difference. £1 could help 20 people combat river blindness, and £1 could protect 2 people against trachoma, the eye disease which causes blindness. We’re hoping to raise a great amount of funds to save the sight of thousands of people during 2012.

When it comes to extreme, it doesn’t get much tougher than this. The BBC filmed a group of young people with challenging behaviour, embarking on an expedition in the hostile artic of the North Pole. Good job the Polaroid extreme sports sunglasses, chosen by the entire expedition party, were up for the challenge.
During the programme, nineteen year old Luke Dicker, who suffers from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, challenges the label of being unteachable. He tells of his journey with a group of exploration experts, while mentoring four youngsters with behavioural problems, as they embark on the expedition of a lifetime.
We have a lot of admiration for the participants, and for the leaders of the trek who are prepared to help others take on a challenge to turn their lives around. And with glare blocking properties and UV400 protection, their Polaroid sunglasses gave these trepid explorers a clear and safe view of the snowy plain.

Recently a team of 32 ladies from Polaroid Eyewear and their friends and family marched the streets of Glasgow for the first ever Shine Walk, and raised a staggering £4,000 for Cancer Research.
Sporting glow sticks and singing as they walked the night time marathon, the team certainly turned the heads of the locals along their journey!
Polaroid’s Helen Connolly, was the driving force behind getting our team together. “It was an amazing experience to be part of it and I couldn’t believe the amount of people
on the streets supporting us,” said Helen.
“This event is so close to our hearts because cancer impacts on someone in our lives at some stage or another.”
