Summer. It’s the time of year when we’re thinking about getting more active. The sun is shining and the cold mornings have stopped for a while. My name is David Phillips, manager of Fat Tire Bike Tours – London. I personally own three bikes, but am responsible for more than 103. Reason being, we provide guide bike tours to private groups and visitors to the city of London on comfortable California “beach cruisers” every day through the Royal Parks. The pace isn’t le Tour de France, but we still cover 7 miles per tour (with a nice pub break half-way through). With wind and pollen an obstacle that can ruin my day…sunglasses are just as essential as a flat repair kit and pump. I was give the opportunity to demo a few different types of Polaroid sunglasses over the past two months. My favourite has been the P7024’s (Mountain FX)– which are essentially an “everyday” pair of shades. Rockin’ these guys, I can sprint across town to work (5.5 mile or so commute from Dalston to Queensway), work around the office all day, perhaps even giving a tour…and they don’t ache against the side of my head or nose (which can be a massive problem with sunglasses). They’re also versatile enough to wear on the beach (I took them out on a surf trip to Newquay in late June 2010) and professional/classic enough to wear greeting a few hundred guests per weekend. I honestly had two “other brand” pairs which were similar in style to P7024’s…but those “others” are collecting dust. It’s the pair from Polaroid that live either in my backpack or on my face. Sean Curran recently undertook a huge challenge – walking the 37 miles stretch known as the Downs Link, starting in Guildford and finishing in Shoreham-by-Sea.
But this 37 mile hike was all in a good cause, raising money for The British Heart Foundation. The team completed the walk in just two days, achieving 20 miles on Day One and 17 miles in Day Two.
“We hadn’t really a target figure in mind but we were pleasantly surprised to raise over £2,350 between us,” said Sean.

Despite a very wet start to Sunday morning’s flagship event in the 2010 Polaroid Eyewear series, almost 1600 runners entered for the four separate running events. All age ranges were covered by the preschool to Primary 3, Senior primary, 5K fun run and 10k races. All races started and finished at Loch Lomond shores, the gateway to the National park, and the 5k and 10k races run through Balloch Country park on the shores of the Loch.
As always the staff of Polaroid Eyewear are strong supporters of the series, either by running or helping on the day.

Here at Polaroid, we’re big fans of the angling community. From fly fishermen to carpers who fish on the coldest mornings, they all deserve outstanding eye protection. We’ve recently run a photo contest with some of our top carpers at Carp & Co, The results were fantastic and picking a winner was tough…so we picked two. Adam and Andy. The Polaroid Eyewear team has successfully completed the Caledonian Challenge.
Eric Boinard, Technical Manager of Polaroid Eyewear, his wife Barbara and friend, Peter completed the gruelling walk – equivalent of a double marathon and walking up Ben Nevis twice-over. They finished the walk in an impressive 18 hours and 37 minutes, beating their own target time of 19 hours. Overall they finished a remarkable 19 out of 179 teams.
From taking part in this challenge, the Polaroid Eyewear team has so far raised over £2,000 for The Scottish Communities Foundation.
