Men have to pack for their holidays too. And, if you’re headed anywhere except possibly the North Pole, a swimming costume is probably at the top of your list. No other item in the male wardrobe is the subject of such intense controversy. Some say big trunks are the only solution. Others are convinced that a mankini is not only aerodynamic (as if that matters when you’re in the water) but comfortable too.

Polaroid Sunglasses says there’s plenty of fish in the sea and just as many choices in the swimwear department. So, before you make any decisions, let us take you on a tour of the best swimming shorts on the market. And don’t forget to check out our aviator sunglasses – they go with everything.

Opt for the latest Speedos from Simplyswim

Sporty – If you like something that’s more athletic than just aesthetic, Simplyswim probably has exactly what you need. From the slightly racy to the big and the bold, there’s lots on offer. Many of the serious shorts are black or navy blue, but if colour is what you crave, you’ll find it here. (more…)

David from Fat Tire Bike Tours picks Polaroid Sunglasses!

My name is David Phillips, manager of Fat Tire Bike Tours – London. I personally own three bikes, but am responsible for more than 103. Reason being, we provide guide bike tours to private groups and visitors to the city of London on comfortable California “beach cruisers” every day through the Royal Parks. The pace isn’t le Tour de France, but we still cover 7 miles per tour (with a nice pub break half-way through). With wind and pollen an obstacle that can ruin my day…sunglasses are just as essential as a flat repair kit and pump. I was give the opportunity to demo a few different types of Polaroid sunglasses over the past two months. My favourite has been the P7024’s (Mountain FX)– which are essentially an “everyday” pair of shades. Rockin’ these guys, I can sprint across town to work (5.5 mile or so commute from Dalston to Queensway), work around the office all day, perhaps even giving a tour…and they don’t ache against the side of my head or nose (which can be a massive problem with sunglasses). They’re  also versatile enough to wear on the beach (I took them out on a surf trip to Newquay in late June 2010) and professional/classic enough to wear greeting a few hundred guests per weekend. I honestly had two “other brand” pairs which were similar in style to P7024’s…but those “others” are collecting dust. It’s the pair from Polaroid that live either in my backpack or on my face. If you don’t believe me, book a tour with us at Fat Tire Bike Tours  and come see them in action!

Tate shows us how Polaroid Clip-ons really work

Our friend Tate at the Spectacles Blog is a big fan of Polaroid Sunglasses and polarization. And, we like him too… When it comes to reporting on the amazing world of optics, sunglasses and good old-fashioned specs, Tate is the man. We recently sent him some of our flip-up  Clip-ons to take for a test spin. They’re perfect for wearing over prescription glasses, and they’re small enought to take with you anywhere.

But you don’t have to take our word for it, find out what Tate has to say about them.

Why not plan ahead and get some to take on holiday!

That why our men’s sunglasses range includes some outstanding retro styles. The key to geek chic is the proportion. Keep cardies and shirts on the small side. And think brogues. They really do look good with almost. If you’re ready to unleash your inner geek, we can suggest some key pieces that might make your latest look a winner.

A cardigan, but not as you know it. That’s right. It’s comfortable, durable, practical and suddenly stylish. The cardigan is definitely enjoying some well-deserved popularity. Think grey, brown or even white. And don’t forget that all important maxim: less is more. Baggy is not the way to go. Keep it small and neat so it just slides over t-shirts. Men’s sunglasses aren’t just a summer accessory. They’re the men’s accessory for both spring and summer 2010. And they’re not for casual wear alone – although you won’t want to be without some sports sunglasses when you’re jogging or cycling. Stylish men’s sunglasses are  just as important for those days when only a suit will do. After all,  the glare can be just as intense when you’re pounding the city streets as it is when you’re relaxing at the beach. The popularity of the American television series Mad Men has done for the suit what no amount of advertising could ever achieve – made good tailoring sexy. If you’re looking for  a new suit to celebrate the warm weather, there are three paths to choose from.
