Well we’ve done it again! Last Christmas we donated reading glasses to Vision Care for Homeless People, and this month we’ve made another donation of an extra 200 pairs.
Corporate social responsibility is very important to Polaroid and supporting Vision Care with something so simple which will make a huge difference to people’s lives was an opportunity too good to miss.
Next year, we’re also supporting the Sightsavers charity by donating a share of the sales from selected pairs of sunglasses to help their work to prevent avoidable blindness in developing countries.
If you’d like to support Vision Care, why not vote for them to become the Optometry Today Charity of the Year? Read more…
Papillion P8945 - form and function
As a freelance writer and editor, I need to keep my eye on the ball, or at least the ballpoint pen. Attention to detail is crucial, both on the page and working on-screen (careers can be broken by a misplaced semi-colon), so it’s important that I look after my eyes; that means I can’t sit squinting in the sun, and I don’t need to be dazzled when I’m out on the streets.
One of the best things about my Papillion P8945, filter category 3 sunglasses was the comfortable fit. No one could ever accuse the average writer/editor of not having a nose for a story, but in the past it was the nose that was the problem; previous models of sunglasses (and I’ve tried some expensive brands) kept sliding down my face until they were practically resting on my upper lip, and when you have one hand on a manuscript and the other on your red pen, that causes problems.
These Papillion P8945 sunglasses were slip-proof and did a great job at reducing glare, so I was able to skip from sunshine to screen without having to wait for half an hour for my eyes to adjust before I could get back to work. Apart from that, they looked really good, with a cute little butterfly detail on the hinge. Form and function – what more could you ask for?

This week is Migraine Awareness Week, the annual event to raise awareness of migraine suffering. Here at Polaroid we’re helping to spread the word, and hoping that people will seek help this week to help manage their migraine symptoms.
Although not a cure, members of Migraine Action have told us that wearing polarized sunglasses has helped relieve some of their migraine symptoms. So we’ve selected some sunglasses for you to try, take a look.
Wearing polarized sunglasses has also been noted in the Health press as a way to help relieve migraine symptoms:
“Polarized lenses are better because they reduce scattered light, which is what causes glare.” Lead Expert at MyMigraineConnection

Did you know?
That one-half to three-quarters of the world’s adults aged 18 to 65 have experienced a headache or migraine in the past year (World Health Organisation 2011).
At Polaroid Eyewear we recognise the problems that migraines can cause, and are keen for migraineurs to get whatever relief they can. So we’re encouraged to see a new report from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Lifting the Burden (LTB) has been released.
The report gives statistics and information about the problems faced for those who suffer from migraines and headaches. Dr Shekhar Saxena of the WHO says, “During migraine attacks, 90% of people postpone household chores, almost ¾ have limited ability to work and half of them miss work entirely.”
Although it won’t make the problem disappear, take a look at our sunglasses which might help to relieve some migraine symptoms.
