Polaroid sunglasses are available at many Duty Free shops across the world, so we’re delighted to feature in the new Terminal A store at Vnukovo Airport in Moscow. Specially selected by the airport, Polaroid is amongst a selection of other premium accessories including perfumes, cosmetics, confectionary, luggage and travel items.
With other top brands such as P&G, Coty, L’Oréal Luxe, Hermès and Bvlgari showcasing their accessories, it’s fantastic to be in such great company for quality and style.
Already the airport is thriving as more international flights are using the new Terminal A, so it’s an exciting time for us.
Polaroid’s Eric Boinard, shares 3D technology expertise.
I recently gave a presentation for the General Optical Council to opticians about 3D glasses and technology. Optometrists and Opticians need to gain a certain amount of Continuing Education points as part of their training, so it was great to inspire them.
As part of my presentation I talked about the different methods of 3D technology, including circular polarized 3D technology which Polaroid’s premium 3D glasses use. This technology is designed to work with most cinemas, passive 3D televisions and PCs.
I also discussed the sales and marketing aspects of the 3D business which is so important to opticians, as understanding the technology behind the lens will enable them to provide their customers with the correct 3D glasses.

Quality is core to everything we stand for. That’s why we put our sunglasses through rigorous tests so you have perfect sunglasses every time.
Here’s what it involves:
- Energetic opening – a mechanical bar pushes down on the sunglass bridge to simulate over-energetic opening of the arms
- Lotions and potions – we test our sunglasses using day-to-day sun creams, cosmetics and hair products to ensure the materials don’t react
- Seaside durability – exposing sunglasses to salt water, supplied by OSIL, creates a typical beach environment
- Rigorous use – opening and closing the arms constantly for 7 hours, shows how the sunglasses will perform in a 2 year time span.

The Air Canada crew wearing their Polaroid sunglasses.
I recently attended the In-flight Sales Person of the Year (ISPY) conference at the Hilton Brighton Metropole. This international exhibition attracts many airlines, concessionaires and leading suppliers in the retail travel industry. It was great to speak to global airlines such as South African Airways; who sell Polaroid sunglasses on their long-haul flights; Virgin Atlantic and Flybe.
Polaroid Eyewear sponsored the event, which largely focussed on the technique of training the airline crew. This was interesting see, as were the presentations given by the ISPY experts.
The most inspiring talk for me was Alan Chambers, MBE and Polar Explorer. He shared his experience of getting the first British team to walk supported to the Geographic North Pole, and how he motivated his team in such harsh conditions. Read more…

Polaroid Eyewear is a member of the Travel Retail Consortium, a specialist group of representatives from suppliers in the retail travel industry. To celebrate 40 years of this group, which gives Polaroid cutting edge knowledge of developments within the travel industry, I attended a lunch at the stunning Altitude 360 in Millbank Tower, Westminster.
Being part of this Consortium ensures Polaroid delivers the right type of products and choices for our customers, so the 40 year milestone was definitely one to celebrate.
We invited buyers who decide which cruise ships and duty free shops stock Polaroid Sunglasses, plus lifestyle journalists and key members of the travel retail community.
