We’re having unseasonably warm sunny weather – so we wore our most fashionable sunglasses when we attended a style event hosted by NHJ Style Consultancy at Harvey Nichols in London. With fresh cocktails made from Absolute Vodka’s latest blend and wonderful chocolate truffles, we sat back, relaxed and watched the team from NHJ show us all the best for the coming season. And, with the guidance of a clever stylist – there’s no doubt that Autumn/Winter 2011-12 has a lot to offer. Here’s a quick overview of what we learned about coming season:
J Brand for top skinnies!
Coloured jeans - and the skinnier the better. Bright green and intense red were the favourites. These key pieces were paired with draped neutral tops or chunky knits in slightly rounded cocoon shapes.
Sequined tops – sometimes the word sequin doesn’t really inspire confidence, but these tops in quiet colours and simple shapes were amazing. The clever people from NHJ paired them with skinny black trousers and lovely slightly longer blazers. They can be a bit of an investment, but they’re also versatile enough for both day or night.
Lovely blouses - with pussy bows or without, these flatter everyone because they have a way of hiding any and every figure flaw – whether real or imagined. We were advised not to tuck them in, but if we must to leave plenty of fabric loose above the waistband.
As always the team delivered advice women can actually use. A big thanks from Polaroid Sunglasses!
Celia Birtwell - a wonderful print from John Lewis
This year, the queen is honouring Celia Birtwell with a CBE for her services to the fashion industry. And here at Polaroid, we’re glad to hear it. An icon of all that London was in the 1960s, her collaboration with Ossie Clark defined the fashion of an entire era. The times wouldn’t have been nearly so ground-breaking or interesting without her.
Celia Birtwell may have risen to fame more than forty years ago, but she remains a vibrant and very wearable fashion voice. Her prints and colours still draw their inspiration from Picasso, Matisse and have an almost painterly quality. Her recent collection for John Lewis brings us the same sense of colour and excitement that made her famous in the 1960s. It’s definitely style for people who are ready to say something worth hearing.
So, congratulations Celia Birtwell from all of us at Polaroid Sunglasses! We look forward to seeing what your next collection will bring.

Ryan Worker is the Captain of the England Youth Flyfishing Team. He recently tried some Polaroid fishing sunglasses and this is what he thought of them:
A fantastic pair of glasses for fishing in. The shield at the side protected me from the fly/hook when casting as well as stopping sunlight from creeping in around the edge of the lens. The Polaroid lenses allowed me to see well into the water. The sunglasses were a very comfortable fit with soft nose grip, they stayed in place and were excellent in bright sunlight as well during duller periods. I was happy to wear them all day. They are also a fashionable design which is always appreciated. I will continue to wear these glasses for as long as I can, I am very pleased with them.

Sleek from Pearl Izumi
We’re having a heatwave! And it’s not often we get to say that here in the UK. No doubt it will be over all too soon. But while the sun is out, there’s time to put on your cycling sunglasses, strap on your helmet and go for a ride. And, even when the weather gets cloudy again, don’t forget that your sunglasses do more than make your eyes more comfortable, they protect against harmful UV light. But, before you jump on that bike, you’ll want to have a look at the best cycling shorts.
Short and bold – The RPM short from Sugoi is just that. Short. It’s also made out of breathable, wind-resistant P3 fabric. The inseam is only 8.5 inches, but there’s chamois padding to make things a bit more comfortable. Head to your nearest Cycle Surgery if you want to try before you buy.
