Stevie Wonder wears 1980 Image S4129A

Earlier this year we told you that we met Stevie Wonder at the CES Trade show in Las Vegas, where he chose a pair of 1980 Image S4129A sunglasses from our Best under the sun collection.

Well now we’re delighted to say that we spotted Stevie wearing his heritage sunglasses at the Tribute to Motown concert hosted by President Barack Obama and the First Lady Michelle at the White House last week.

Along with other musicians including Seal, Sheryl Crow and Jordin Sparks, Stevie performed on stage looking quite the part we must say in his stylish sunglasses!

Protect your eyes when you're on the slopes!

Technology has taken skiing a long way. From old-fashioned wooden skis, bear-trap bindings and damp woollen jumpers to skis made from flexible synthetics, high-quality sunglasses and the latest generation of amazingly sensitive bindings, there’s no doubt that skiing is easier and safer than ever. But that doesn’t mean we can assume  accidents will never happen. They can and do. But by keeping safety in mind, you can make every run as enjoyable as possible.

Make sure you can see – This sounds obvious, but it’s surprising how many people are out on the snow without the right eyewear. Not only will sunglasses or goggles  protect your eyes from UV light up to 400nm, they’ll also shield your face when the wind comes up.  Polaroid does a good range of skiing sunglasses and goggles. Contender comes with interchangeable lenses that will ensure you’re safe in low light as well as bright sunlight.

Get a helmet – Some resorts require them and if you plan to ski in Austria, you’ll definitely want to make sure you’re wearing one. Helmets make all the difference when you  fall – whether it’s a spectacular tumble or just a simple slip. And a helmet  keeps your head warm too. Renting one is relatively inexpensive. Or, you can invest in your own – but get some advice on finding a good fit.

Look uphill- Every ski resort has runs that cross other runs, maps you can stop and  look at on your way down and even small cafes where you can stop for a quick coffee. Whenever you’re starting or stopping , look for skiers or boarders who might be coming down the hill and toward you. They have the right-of-way – and crossing into their path is a mistake. Comfortable and hard on glare

Sometimes it seems like summer is a million years away. Literally. But, that doesn’t mean you can relax when it comes to eye protection. Winter sun is lower in the sky, so it’s more likely to shine directly in your eyes when you’re driving. And, that means that having sunglasses, Clip-Ons or Suncovers on hand in the car is a must.

But there’s more. Glare is light moving in the horizontal plane – and it happens when light bounces off a flat surface like a road, a pavement or even the bonnet of a car. It’s uncomfortable, unpleasant and can impair your vision. Glare doesn’t just happen in bright sunlight – it can happen on days that are grim and grey as well.  There’s research showing that glare can slow down the time it takes to stop your car.  So be safe in low light and keep sun protection in your glove box.
