Early snow – Polaroid’s guide to ski resorts

Good eye protection is an essential

Snow is unpredictable. Sometimes you get lots of it in December and sometimes you don’t see enough of it until February. So, if you’re planning to take your ski holiday sooner rather than later, it pays to do a bit of research. High altitude resorts are more likely to have a good snow pack by late November. Of course, there are no guarantees…but a little planning can help you find the snow you’re after. So let Polaroid Sunglasses introduce you to our top high-altitude resorts.Engleberg- Popular with the Swiss, but still largely undiscovered by the British, Engleberg is an ideal skiing destination. The runs are varied and there’s plenty of choice for experts and those who are less confident. Have a look at Ski Direct for a good deal.

Chamonix- Already in mid- October this resort is reporting light snow. Let’s hope that by the end of November it really amounts to something. 90% of the ski slopes in Chamonix are above 2,000 metres – which is no surprise since the resort is at the foot of Mount Blanc, Europe’s highest mountain. With new links to St. Gervais and Megere, this is the ideal place to go for guaranteed snow.  Check out Alpine Elements to see what’s on offer.

Kaprun-Located at the base of Austria’s amazing Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, Kaprun combines  high alititude slopes with wonderful scenery and ski runs that will please everyone from absolute beginners to experts. And, if you want to visit Zell am See, there’s a bus that will take you there. Crystal Ski is a good starting point if you’re ready to book.

One of the most important pieces of kit for skiing is the right goggles or sunglasses. Even when the sun is hidden, snow reflects light that becomes glare. The good news is that Polaroid’s collection has some exciting styles to choose from. So start thinking snow!
