Polaroid polarized sunglasses eliminate glare on Paul Sheerin’s challenge

Loch Katrine from Stronachlachar on Paul Sheerin's route on the Polaroid Eyewear cycle challenge.

Welcome to this week’s Polaroid Eyewear cycle challenge update. It’s getting close to crunch time with the planned date now only three weeks on Saturday.

Last week I went for miles without a lot of hills, so this week it was miles and hills – delightful. Well actually it was – a chilly start at 0520 but blue skies and very light winds all the way. For one section of the route (around Lock Katrine) I cycled for 2 hours without passing or meeting a car through some glorious scenery.

I have to say this weekend was really encouraging for me. I managed 50+ miles cycling before stopping for a break (apart from these hastily taken photos); my knees held up better than last week; and when I got home I actually felt like I could have done more.

One slight concern for the event is the arms and legs being added to the story of my Dad’s original achievement in cycling this route in one day in 1962. According to my mum, the story now goes that after arriving in Glasgow, having his bath and his tea, he then went out to the dancing with his then girlfriend (my mum). If the next addition is a quick walk up Buachaille Etive Mor on the way I will be scheduling a lie detector test.

No glare from the waters of Loch Ard!

Within the team Eric Boinard will this week take part in Etape Caledonia 2010 – an 81 mile 6000 feet of climbs closed road event which has a minimum average speed of 12.5 mph which must be maintained to stay in the event. Good luck Eric!
