Proof: harem trousers can be cool. Just visit asos.

It’s a little grunge, a little retro and a whole lotta fun. Street style is one look that’s making headlines this spring. It’s about finding practical, versatile  clothes and putting them together in new and unexpected ways. In a word, it’s cool. All it takes is a relaxed attitude, a few good basics and some imagination. To get you started, we’ve picked out a some of the best examples of clothes that will give you the edge.

Tip 1 –get an over-sized denim shirt. It will be perfect with shiny black leggings, chunky boots and a big scarf or, when the weather gets better a floral miniskirt and open-toe boots. This one is from Topshop and it’s going to be a winner this spring.

Tip 2 – say hello to sailor stripes. That’s right nautical just got a little attitude. Go long and pair with skinny jeans or tuck it in with a pair of harem trousers. This top/tunic from New Look is fun – and a perfect price.

Tip 3 – invest in a pair of harem trousers. I know there are doubters out there, but with a little thought and some time spent in the changing room, you can find a pair that will work for you. Start looking at asos.com. This pair is from Pepe Jeans and won’t remind your friends of a panto gone wrong. Black is perhaps your best bet and will get you through the clouds and rain of March.

Tip 4 – find a great t-shirt. Miss Selfridges does an incredible range of t-shirts that are all based on Tim Burton’s New Alice in Wonderland. These are perfect with just about any short skirt you can name. Add some granny heels and you’re in business!

And finally, what sunglasses do you wear out on the street? A pair of classic aviators is the hippest choice we can think of. Take a look at our range of women’s aviator sunglasses.

So, now you’re ready to get out there and strut your stuff. Send us some photos!
