Today the wind has completely gone. So gone actually that some of us went for a swim as the boat was not moving. This seems to be general accross the fleet. The good news is that we were close enough to Lanzarote for me to get a signal and phone home.

Tuesday 29th Sept

An uneventful day, very little wind, plenty of sun. Had another visit from a large pod of dolphins as well as a turtle. Regarding the standing, it should be clarified once we have passed the Canaries. Very little shade on deck.

Monday 28th Sept

At last we are in a racing mode, everybody taking turn trimming the sails 24hrs a day. Feels better, like we are going somewhere. Still too many chiefs and not enough indians but this should also improve over the next few days once everybody has found a place where they are happy. In the previous days, if nothing broke it ended up being a very boring day. The icing on the cake today, a pod of 20 dolphins came to play around the bow of the boat. It really was something quite special.

Not much wind still but at least we did not break anything today. However we noticed that we have lost our wing instrument. This means  that we do not have anymore the direction and strength of the wind which is a major hold back as it is more difficult to assess when the boat goes slower if this is related to the boat trim or to the wind itself. We are still going south as a storm is brewing in the West. This is why some of the other boats also turned East.

Big surf during the night…..we had a couple of unintended gybes with the boom flying over the boat from one side to the other. We are lucky that nobody has been seriously hurt or even thrown overboard. At the moment we seem to be breaking something every 24hrs.

Friday 25th Sept

After a 27hr battle with the spinnaker it is finally down. We have lost a lot of miles which did not help our standing. One positive out of this mess is that the team is starting to gel and to work for each other better. This day was also my mother watch day and I [...]

Thursday 24th Sept

Wind was back but within 1 hr of my watch the spinnaker got wrapped around the stays at the front of the boat and this has become a pure nightmare as we cannot alter course and we cannot put any sails up.
