Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race – Naming ceremony

Since my last training, the formal naming of the boat has taken place. The naming took place alongside the Royal Yacht Britannia in the Port of Leith after a sail down the Firth of Forth from Port Edgar and the boat was named by Alex Salmond, Scotland First Minister, using Benromach quality whisky instead of the traditional champagne. As part of the sponsorship from Edinburgh, among the crew will be seven young people from a range of backgrounds who are currently unemployed. Each one of them will take part in one leg of the race forming a ‘tag team’. The boat was piped by one of the crew when crossing the border and entering Scottish waters and by the Red Hot Chilli Pipers when arriving in Leith. The yacht will be moored in Leith until Monday 17 August and will be open to the public from Thursday 13 to Sunday 16 August.
