British designer, Matthew Williamson, strikes the right note for summer

by Stephanie

British designer, Matthew Williamson, has an eye for talent. And we were impressed to see him visit Kid’s Company in Kilburn, a Sport Relief funded project that helps children living in poverty across North London. During his visit, Matthew helped with their project to decorate the tutu-dresses that they’ll be wearing at an upcoming carnival. He now hopes that his range of reusable shopping bags, designed in aid of Sport Relief, will help to raise even more funds for the charity.

With celebrities Cat Deeley, Sienna Miller and Jade Jagger amongst his fans, Matthew Williamson has a unique style and an eye for detail. We love his current collection, Butterfly by Matthew Williamson, at Debenhams. It’s perfect for summer, and the pretty butterflies and beautiful pastels for dresses, tops and accessories will brighten up your wardrobe and create the perfect look for all occasions.

Make a statement in Polaroid Destiny F8201A sunglasses.

The weather’s unpredictable, but that doesn’t mean you can’t look fantastic. We’ve had a look at what Debenhams are talking about for this season, so you can create a look that’s both stylish and ready for all occasions.

  • Layering – a fail-safe way to dress between seasons. A light cardigan over a pretty camisole will take you through spring and into summer without breaking the bank
  • Knitwear – think light, bright and colourful fine knits with interesting buttons
  • Colour – bright jeans, pretty pastel cardigans, statement macs and printed blazers are great pick-me-ups and brighten your spring wardrobe
  • Statement bag – a new bag can give your outfit an instant update and is perfect for testing out bold trends such as prints and neons
  • Pretty scarves – experiment with triangle styles, lightweight materials and neutral colours.

And to complete your look, here at Polaroid we recommend our ultimate accessory, a pair of Polaroid oversized sunglasses.

Pineapple Dance Studios, Autism’s Got Talent and the Olympic torch

by Stephanie

in Celebrities, Community, Extreme sports, Health, Sports, Sunglasses

Last year we featured a talented young lad, Luke Dicker, who was part of the BBC documentary, The Coldest Classroom on Earth. Luke, who suffers from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Autism, was filmed as he embarked on an expedition to the North Pole to challenge the label of being unteachable. Polaroid supported the trek by providing essential extreme sports sunglasses to the intrepid explorers.

We followed Luke’s journey with interest and his progression was amazing. So it was fantastic to be told that Luke has been asked by Lloyds TSB, the Official Banking and Insurance Partner of the London 2012 Games, to carry the Olympic torch for them on the 23 May.

Luke will also be performing, with the support of Pineapple Dance Studios, in Autism’s Got Talent on 12 May at the Mermaid Theatre in London.

Melvin gets ready for the London Marathon in Polaroid Glide P7130A.

Not put off by the overcast skies forecast for this weekend, KissFM Breakfast DJ, Melvin Odoom, is gearing up for the Virgin London Marathon. The television presenter and radio DJ will be participating along with an expected 35,000 people in one of the greatest running events in the world. So to help him prepare, we provided Melvin with a pair of Polaroid Glide sports sunglasses. We’re confident the sun will make an appearance at some point!

Melvin’s sunglasses have been essential in helping him train in the weeks building up to the event. He will be running in aid of The Prostate Cancer Charity and Breast Cancer Care, who have joined forces to become ‘Team PB.’ The charity has a whole host of celebrities including Geri Halliwell, Denise van Outen and Lisa Snowdon as supporters, so Melvin will be in good company as he takes on the marathon.

“I’m running for Team PB because it’s a great cause and a big challenge for me,” said Melvin. On a personal level prostate cancer is something my grandfather suffered from, so I really value the work of these two great charities.” Read more …
