The Last Stand will be actor Arnold Schwarznegger’s first lead role since Terminator 3: the rise of the machines. Due for release on 18 January 2013, the excitement has been building and this November sees Arnie featured on the cover of Empire magazine, in Polaroid Take-off sunglasses.

In this cover shot, Schwarznegger is in character as Ray Jones, the sheriff of a quiet US border town he plays in the film. Dressed in a classic brown leather jacket with crisp white shirt, the look is completed with sheriff’s badge and Polaroid aviator sunglasses, for an imposing front page image to this best-selling film magazine.

Directed by Kim Ji-woon, best known for ‘I Saw the Devil’, the official trailer boasts all the action that films with Arnie are known for, with the quick-fire magic that Kim sprinkles liberally throughout his films. As sheriff, Ray Jones, Arnie would rather not get involved but becomes drawn in to taking a stand against an escaped drugs cartel leader who’s making a break for the Mexican border, with a hostage in tow.

From his early days as a body builder to his Hollywood career and role as Governor of California, Arnie has always been driven to excel. When it comes to films he once remarked, “you can scream at me, call me for a shoot at midnight, keep me waiting for hours – as long as what ends up on the screen is perfect.”

If the trailer is anything to go by, this film marks a return to Schwartznegger’s best with all the excitement, humour and drama of a great action-adventure film.

Actor Neil Pearson wears Polaroid Smoulder

Actor Ben Miller cools down in Polaroid shades after filming ‘Death in Paradise’

Ben Miller is the reluctant Detective Inspector Richard Poole in the hit BBC drama series, Death In Paradise. Poole is sent to investigate a murder on the beautiful fictional Caribbean island of Saint-Marie, yet he despises the heat, sand and sea that would delight others.

The stars have been filming Series 2 on location in Guadeloupe and we can’t wait to see the new series in January. When off set Ben swaps the trademark detective’s suit for a relaxed look finished off with Polaroid’s Smoulder sunglasses.

The paradise island’s policeman, Dwayne Myers is played by Danny John-Jules and his character is as laid back as Poole is up-tight.

Danny spoke to us from the film set in Guadeloupe to praise Ben on his work:

5th Floor cycling team take Polaroid sunglasses racing in Milan

When it comes to fixed gear cycling The 5th Floor does it all, and has just returned from the prestigious Red Hook Criterium race in Milan, Italy where their riders wore Polaroid sunglasses. Rudy Melo and James Wright put in an epic performance amongst the 100 international riders who took on the 22 circuit, 19 mile fixed gear race. Both cyclists wore Polaroid Shoxx P7216Cwhich have been chosen by The 5th Floor team as their signature cycling sunglasses.

Polaroid also supplied the team with Polaroid Pro P7221B sunglasses with grey, amber and clear interchangeable lenses so they could use the clear lenses through the night on the Milan ride, letting in maximum light but keeping out grit and bugs.

In the event the race was unexpectedly changed from the usual night ride to a daytime race due to concerns from course officials about safety. These sunglasses will now be put through their paces during the dark evenings on training rides and for the Brooklyn leg of the race.

Polaroid proud to see Alex Flynn on the BBC’s One Show with guest Michael Palin

He did it! Alex Flynn completed a 3,500 mile Trans-American challenge. This calls for celebration because 40 year old Alex has Parkinson’s Disease which makes him an unlikely athlete. The One Show featured his inspirational story. Polaroid has provided Alex with sports sunglasses to protect his eyes from grit, UV and glare as he takes on some incredible challenges around the world. Alex was a guest on the BBC show alongside Monty Python comedian and adventurer Michael Palin and TV presenter Alexander Armstrong, on the One

The One Show featured Alex’s incredible story. It showed how he set out on this Trans-American quest in a bid to challenge the perceptions of neurological diseases. This feat was part of the overall challenge he has set himself to race 10,000,000 metres and raise £1million to fund research into Parkinson’s disease.

Alex crossed America cycling, running, rowing or kayaking and swimming, starting out in Santa Monica, California and finishing in New York City. That meant 3,563 miles including running through Death Valley in temperatures of 50 degrees, kayaking across the vast expanse of Lake Eerie and swimming to the statue of Liberty. It would be hard for anyone but for someone who is prone to uncontrollable shakes like Alex, it tested his mental and physical strength to the limits. Michael Palin’s father suffered from Parkinson’s Disease and he applauded the message of hope that Alex provided.

Get the look – MOBO Award nominee Angel in Polaroid sunglasses

Congratulations to singer, Angel, who has been shortlisted as Best Newcomer in the prestigious MOBO Awards alongside the likes of AlunaGeorge and Rita Ora. But it doesn’t stop there, Angel has also been nominated for Best R&B/Soul Act with performers that include Labrinth and Emile Sandé. Held on 3 November the MOBOs take place at the Echo Arena Liverpool and were created by Kanya King MBE to bring black music and culture into the mainstream. The MOBOs have become an annual highlight for music lovers and are a great platform for recognising talent. This November is the 17th year of the MOBO Awards.

Adventurer Charley Boorman, wears Polaroid Explorer sunglasses

James Corden’s film for Sightsavers, Polaroid’s charity partner

Today sees the launch of a quirky short film that Polaroid’s charity partner Sightsavers has made with the actor James Corden and the iconic director Rankin. Sightsavers works to combat blindness in developing countries, restoring sight through specialist treatment and eye care. The film’s launch coincides with World Sight Day, today – Thursday 11 October – and aims to raise awareness of how simple it can be to prevent and treat blindness.

The irrepressible Corden takes a humorous look at what he calls ‘The Feel Bad Four’ different ways to do a charity advert – guilt, comedy, empathy and shock.

Of course the honest fact that it can cost as little as 35p to stop someone in the developing world from going blind, is perhaps the way he does it best of all.

Take a look at the film and decide for yourself.
